Intern to Work
We are more than we seem
Liverpool City Council came to us to help creating assets to promote their Intern to Work programme, a valuable programme for 16-25 year olds supporting interns with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities into the workplace.
There is often a big assumption around people with SEND being unable to work or manage “normal” life, so Intern to Work exists to facilitate the transition of the young person to working life with great success.
Young people can often feel they can’t do things “like other people” or are anxious about doing something like this. Their parents often feel very protective and can struggle to allow their child to try things. Employers are not sure how to support an SEND young person to ensure their workplace is safe.
We love a job like this, so we held three workshops with a cohort of current and previous interns, parents and carers and employers to get their ideas and thoughts about how to do this.
Based on their feedback, we were able to create a series of posters and timelines targeted to the three specific groups, filled with information to help navigate supported internships.
We then created a series of posters, timelines, social media templates for the team to use. These were provided in easy read format as well. Alongside that we provided assets, scripts and to The Guide Liverpool, who made a series of videos showcasing current interns and businesses.
