The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust Teen Pain Book

I don’t feel daunted because transition services have been preparing me

We were asked by The Walton Centre to help create a transition booklet to help young people with chronic pain transition from paediatric to adult care.

Rachael worked closely with the clinical team to create content that was simple and easy for young people to understand. It’s a complex topic that needed sensitivity and clear information.

We ran three workshops with The Studio School in Liverpool to garner the ideas and feedback from young people there to help shape the look and feel of this book, which the Walton Centre then showed to a group of patients for their feedback.

The process was really insightful and brutal - there is nothing quite the stinging feedback from a teenager ha ha! Seriously though, that’s the way to get results and it was an absolute pleasure working with such a lovely team.

The final product was made into a printed book and a PDF for online use, which can be found here. To ensure all patients were covered, Walton also received a fully accessible version for screen readers.
